Assignment 2: Mock Teaching and Modeled Lesson Plan.

Hi everyone. Good Day. I am back again today in my blog to share this week learning process in my Pedagogy In Education class. Today, we were told to submit our assignment 2 by our lecturer. This respective assignment is basically about "Modelled Lesson Plan and Mock Teaching". We were given about 3 weeks to complete this assignment. For this assignment, we were told to choose or pick one model or framework from any 3 School of Thoughts that we have learned in our previous lesson which are Cognitive School of Thought, Humanistic School of Thought and Behavioural School of Thought. Then, we need to explain in detail why we chose that respective school of thought and what is that school of thought all about. After that, we need to create 3 lesson plans based on the school of thought that we have chosen. We need to justify the flow of the lessons and the instructions as well according to the model or framework that we have chosen. Lastly, we need to choose one of the three lesson plans that we have come out with for the teaching segment which is also known as "Mock Teaching". The main purpose why we were asked to do mock teaching is because to give us an opportunity to experience the feeling of teaching in front of the classroom before going for our practical in future.

My friends and I conducted our mock teaching in front of our lecturer. We were given 30 minutes each to conduct our mock teaching. I came out with 3 lesson plans that emphasizes the Cognitive School of Thought. The main reason why I chose this particular school of thought in conducting my assignment because this particular school of thought emphasizes mainly about how people learn and remember information that are taught in the classroom by their teacher. I felt personally that this element or aspect is quiet important in order to have an effective classroom teaching and learning process in the classroom in future. I came out with one lesson plan which is about prepositions of place and position and used in my mock teaching presentation. I presented my mock teaching on Prepositions of Place and Position in front of my lecturer and my friends.
I started my teaching process by greeting my students (whom are friends in actual). Then, I asked them do they remember what they have learned in their previous lesson which was about "Preposition of Time" and I asked them several questions related to " Prepositions of Time" in order to test their level of understanding that specific topic. After that, I asked one of the students to place my book on the table and I officially started my lesson of the day by relating that act of my student with Prepositions of Place and Position. For example, when I ask my students to place the book on the table, it means that they are indirectly using the knowledge of Prepositions of Place and Positions through the word "on".
I also explained to them in detail about this particular Preposition of Place and Position using PowerPoint slides in order to make my entire teaching process interesting. Furthermore, I also relate this specific topic with the student real life activities like “Hide and Seek” so that they will be able to understand and integrate this specific topic into themselves better in future. In addition to this topic, I also carried out activity like asking them to construct sentences using prepositions of Place and Position based on the 2 pictures that I have displayed on the screen. I asked the students to carry out the activity in groups in order to forge interactions among them.
Lastly, I ended my class by giving out questions or handouts related to lesson of the day which is Preposition of Place and Position and asked them to submit it on the next in order to test their understanding on this specific topic.
Overall, my lecturer was happy with my mock teaching as it was interesting and also was carried out by me with full of confident. However, she told me to take note seriously on certain criteria that are required for an effective teaching process which I failed to show or adapt into my teaching process. For example, I was told that my teaching process is quiet long and my time slot was not that appropriate with it.
My friends also carried out their mock teaching and all of them was able to present well. The entire mock teaching task was fun yet challenging for us. It also was a good experience for us as that was the first time we faced the experience of teaching in the classroom.
As a conclusion, this assignment was very helpful for us whom are the future educators and I am sure that we all have gained the confidence of ourselves in teaching others before going or attempting our practical in schools in future.
This is all from me. Thanks for viewing my blog. Please do give feedback from time to time. Your feedback will be very useful for me to improve my content in my blog in future. Will be back next week with a new topic. Have a great day. Thanks again.

Continuations of "Respective ways of teaching advocated by behaviorists"

Hi everyone. Today, I am here again to share on what I have learned my this week Pedagogy In Education. In this week class, me and friends learned a few other new respective ways of teaching advocated by behaviorists.

1. Precision Teaching (PT) - Occurs when learners master a fact or skill. For example, when students are able to spell a word correctly or until they achieve a high level of fluency or precision. They believe in the term " Practice Makes Perfect". On the other hand, precision teaching is also known as a method of planning a teaching program to meet or fulfill the need of an individual child or young person who is experiencing difficulty with gaining or maintaining  some skills. Moreover, it has an implanted monitoring function and is basically a means of appraising the effectiveness of what is being taught. When the learners have the interest in learning or doing something, the more the more they will learn and carry out the thing in future.

2. Applied behavioral Analysis (ABA)
Is the application of principals of  learning and motivation from Behavior Analysis, and the methods and technology obtained from those principals, to the quick fix of problems of social compelling. Besides that, ABA is mostly used in clinical settings  in order to change the behavior of the clients towards more normal or acceptable sequences For example, in schools and hospitals. Furthermore, ABA  also follows a prescribed procedure.

Besides that, after learning about the few respective ways of teaching, our lecturer conducted an activity. She told us sit separately and write all the information or ideas on the "School of Thoughts" that we have learned in the previous classes and still able to remember. This is activity was conducted in order for our lecturer and ourselves as well to know our level of understandings on the 3 respective "Schools of Thought" which are the Cognitive, Humanistic and Behavioral School of Thought. We were given 30 minutes time to write all the information and after that, we were told to present those information in front of the classroom. The entire activity was fun and interesting and at the same time, it was helpful for us because we are able to recall or brainstorm all the important aspects that we have learned in the three Schools of thought. This activity will definitely help us to improve our level of understandings on the Schools of Thought in future.

This is all we have learned in this week class. I guess that is all from me for now. Please do continue to give your feedback and thanks for viewing my blog. Hope to be back with a new topic next week. Take care and have a nice day.

The Respective Ways of Teaching Advocated by Behaviorists

Hi everyone. I am back again after a week. Today, I am here to share about what my friends and I managed to learn in this week Pedagogy In Education class.

In today's Pedagogy In education class, we managed to learn a few respective ways of teaching
advocated by behaviorists. The respective following ways are as follows:

1. Programmed Instruction  (PI)- Involves an organizing material to be learned or practiced into smaller parts called "Frames". Learners respond to a question or problems (stimulus) in each frame. If their response is correct, they receive positive reinforcement and the next frame is presented. Meanwhile, when learners respond incorrectly, they may be asked to repeat or to be given more information to help them produce a correct response. Learners utilizing programmed instructions typically work at their own pace.

2. Computer-Assisted Instructions (CAI)-
Refers to the use of computers to present programmed instructions or to otherwise assist learners with specific leaning tasks  and at the same time, enables learners to engage in lots of drill and practice.  For example, certain computer software programs encourage to make up stories and illustrate them as well. For example, StoryVisualizer software.

3. Mastery Learning-  A theory that allows students or learners to learn academic material at their own pace. In practice, all the students in the classroom might be expected to reach a certain level of proficiency, For example 80% correct answers on a geography test. Those who fail to reach the criterion level may receive additional time and correct instructions until they obtain their score, THE MAIN objective of this theory is to give immediate and extra help to the low and slow achievers so that they can increase their level up to the high or fast achievers that are engage in enrichment work on the same or similar topic. If The students have the interest to learn a specific topic, they will definitely will master that particular topic that they have learned.

This is all we have learned in this week pedagogy class. Please continue to give your feedback from time to time. Thank you. I will be back next week for with another new content.

The Behavioral School of Thought

Hi everyone,  I here again to share about the the lesson that I have learned in this week "Pedagogy In Education" class which is about " The Behavioral School Of Thought" and " Classroom Management".

Based on what I have learned, The Behavioral School of Thought is defined as theory that helps us to understand the reason why we behave as we do. Besides that, this particular theory help us to find out our interest in identifying how external, environmental, stimuli cause overt or observable learner behavior and how modifying a learner's environment can change behavior.

Besides that, I also learned about the term "Contiguity" which means the sequential occurrence or proximity of stimulus and response, causing their association in the mind. It also refers to the simple stimulus-response (S-R) pairing, associations, or connections, such as lightning and thunder, which occur closely together.

In addition to this topic, I also learned about the term " Classical Conditioning" which means the learning process that occurs when two stimuli are repeatedly paired or a response that is first elicited by the second stimulus is eventually elicited by the first stimulus alone. This particular theory was introduced by Ivan Pavlov, a Russian physiologist.

Furthermore, I also learned about " Operant Conditioning", which is a type of learning where behavior is controlled by consequences. Key concepts in operant conditioning are positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment and negative punishment. A learner does something correctly or appropriate and consequently receives a reward.

I also managed to learn about " Social learning" which is also known as " Observational learning". Social learning theory that is introduced by Bandura posits that learning is a cognitive process that take place in a social context and can occur purely through observation or direct instruction, even in the absence of motor reproduction or direct reinforcement. In addition to this topic, learning process also can occurs through the observation of rewards and punishments which is process that known as Vicarious Reinforcement.

On the other hands, when it comes to classroom management, it all about managing a classroom effectively by using effective and relevant methods or techniques. In terms of education context, classroom management is the term that is frequently used by teachers to illustrate the process of assuring that classroom lessons occurs smoothly despite disruptive behavior by students. This term also entails the prevention of disruptive behavior of students in future.

I think I will end here. This is all from me. Thanks for viewing by blog and giving feedback from time to time. I will be back for a new topic next week. Thank you.

The Humanistic School of Thought (Week 4)

Hi everyone, Today, I am here again in my blog to talk about the lesson that that I have learned in my Pedagogy In Education class  for this week.

Firstly, in this week class, I managed to learn about " The Humanistic School Of Thought" which is the second type of school of thought after " The Humanistic School Of Thought" which I have discussed in detail in my previous blog.

In this week class, I managed to learn about what is this school of thought and how this school of thought can help in the progress of the learning and teaching process in the school. Based on what I have managed to learn, this particular school of approach mainly emphasizes the concept of accepting the students or learners the way they are and make them to feel better about themselves. Besides that, as an educator, it's a must to accept the students they way they are so that the students are able to show and expose their respective talents and skills in the classroom and at the same time, they will not have the fear in mixing around with others including teachers in the classroom.

Moreover, I also learned about a few core beliefs that are followed or hold by the humanistic school of approach. One of the example of the beliefs is that " Having good feelings about others is also essential to healthy development" which means that whenever we have good thought on others in the classroom environment, we are able to work together and understand each other in more detail that can help to develop ourselves in future besides helping us to have an effective teaching and learning process in the classroom environment in future.

In addition to this topic, I also managed to learn several humanistic approaches to teaching and learning process. There are two types of humanistic teaching and learning which are project method and cooperative learning. The project method encourages the students to follow their own learning interests, meanwhile cooperative learning promotes social and emotional growth in a classroom where children share, accept, and respect ("All for one, One for all") concept.

There also a few other examples of humanistic teaching and learning. They are:

1. Inviting School Success- must know to accept learners's needs and to accept them the way they are.

2. Values Clarification- refers as the tool to help learners to identify themselves in terms of their goals and beliefs ( what are their goals and beliefs)

3. Moral Education- refers to the values education taught in the school that can help the learners to adapt good moral values and beliefs into themselves.

4. Multi-ethnic Education- refers to the educational practice that can help to give support to the learners to admire the culture and diversity of others in future.

So, this all that I have managed to learn and adapt into myself in my this week Pedagogy In Education class. I feel that this knowing this particular school of thought will definitely help me in my teaching career especially in terms on understanding my students's needs and behaviors which is one of the important key element in having an effective classroom teaching and learning process in future.

That's all from me for today. I WILL BE BACK AGAIN next week to discuss the another new topic that I will be learning next week which is the " The Behavioral School Of Thought". Until than , keep visiting my blog  and have a nice day. I WOULD appreciate if you all as the readers will be able to give feedback for my articles that I have written so far in my blog. Thank you. Have a nice day.

"The Cognitive School Of Thought" (Week 3)

Hi everyone, I am here again. Today,  I WOULD like share about what I have learned in my Pedagogy In Education class for this week. In this week class, our lecturer thought us about " The Cognitive School Of Thought".

In this particular lesson, I have learned in detail about Information Processing and Meaningful Learning which are two wide-ranging ideas that are helpful to people out there especially to those whom are in education field or are learning this particular field like me to understand how people specifically students learn and remember information that has been thought to them during teaching and learning process that occurs in the classroom. Information processing is defined as the study of how we mentally adapt and keep information and bring those information back when needed meanwhile meaningful learning involves the study of how new information can be most effectively coordinated, structured, and taught so that it may be used by the teachers in future. For example, during problem-solving situations.

Furthermore, I also learned a few general beliefs of cognitivist with the regards to memory. One of the general beliefs is that information in the short-term memory is lost either when that memory is overloaded or with the passage of time which means students are able to loose the information that they have learned if their short-term memory is full or overloaded.

In addition to this topic, I also get to know the cognitive approaches to teaching and learning process. Based on what I have learned , there are four (4) approaches which are:

1. Authentic Learning- knowledge is more meaningful and remembered  longer

2. Scaffolding- teachers need to provide support to students when they need it (facing problems)

3, Reciprocal Teaching (ReT)- communication that occurs between teachers and learners in the classroom especially about what need to be learned.

4. Problem Solving-- emphasizes in achieving the goals of the learners.

As a conclusion, this particular school of thought will be very useful for me as a future educator in conducting my daily teaching and learning process in my classroom. This is all for now. Next week, I will  be back with another new topic which is "The Humanistic School Of Thought and PLEASE give feedback for my article. Thank you.

Description Of Task (About oneself, philosophy and goals in life)

Hi, my name is Abhirammi a/p V. Kaneshwaran. I am 22 years old. I am doing Bachelor of Education (Hons.) which is one of the UNITAR Course or Program at Sentral College, Penang. I started my degree course about 10 months ago and now I am in my 3rd semester. Throughout the past 10 months of my degree life, I have managed to learn a lot of things in more detail especially in terms of teaching aspect after joining this education course. For example, I managed to learn the correct methods of teaching and what are the pedagogy skills involved in a professional teaching process. In addition to this topic, I also managed to understand in more detail regarding what are the characteristics that a teacher should adapt into themselves
in order to become a professional educator in future. For example, patience is one of the main characteristics that a teacher should adapt into themselves as they need to be patience enough when dealing students with different characteristics and behavior in school.

The main reason why I choose to do this particular degree course is because I am interested to become a teacher in future and this interest was in me since my childhood days. Besides that, my parents also wanted me to become a teacher as they notice that I love to teach my siblings and my friends when I was young and that act of mine made them to believe and have confidence that I had the passion in teaching in myself at young age itself.

Besides that, the another main reason why I wanted to become a teacher because I love to share my knowledge to others and I believe that teaching profession will definitely be a platform for me to share my knowledge to others specifically to the students whom are the future generations in schools or other higher education institutions like universities. In addition to this topic, I also will be able to gain more new knowledge or ideas at the same time when I become a teacher as I need to deal with new syllabus that have new information or content from time to time.

Furthermore, I also want to become a teacher because I believe that teachers are the ones that will be creating many good human capitals for a country through their teaching process. So, as a teacher, I am able to produce many good human beings that will be useful for my country's progress and development and at the same time, I am able to make my life more meaningful because I am able to produce good human beings in future that are talented and skilled in many aspects.

My ultimate goal in my life is to become a professional teacher. In order to become a professional teacher or educator in future, I have to follow certain steps in order to fulfill my goal in future. Firstly, I must produce students that are holistic or all rounded in future. This is because I believe students that are all rounded or skilled in all aspects will be able to do and achieve all kind of tasks that are challenging to them in future. Moreover, this kind of students are the ones that will be able to develop our country in future to better phrase. When I am able to produce students that are holistic , I believe that I am professional in my career. Furthermore, this is also one of the goals emphasized by the National Educational of Philosophy (NEP).

Besides that, I also believe that in order to become a professional teacher, I need to use different teaching methods or technique when teaching the students in school and do not stick with one specific teaching method. As a result, the students will start to feel interesting with my lessons and they will automatically have the interest to learn effectively in my class and score excellent results in their examination in future. This could help them to become a successful person in future as well. As a teacher, pedagogy skills are very important to us in order for us to teach the students professionally and also make them to have the interest to learn effectively during my lesson in the classroom.

In addition to this topic. in order to become a professional teacher, I should not only support students in terms of their curriculum aspects but at the same time, I should support them in terms of their co-curriculum aspects. This is because students in school might not only be good in curriculum aspects, but also might be good in terms of co-curriculum aspects (sports). So, as a teacher, I  should also support them in co-curriculum aspects in order to help the students to improve their talents and respective skills in sports and help them to become a successful athlete in future. For example, I can help to coach them in sports activities like running and hurdles through or during the co-curriculum period which is held at school once a week.

There are a few effective teaching philosophies in education. However, the teaching philosophy that I will be emphasizing in my teaching process is the philosophy of existentialism. This philosophy was founded and inspired 19th Century Danish Philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard. The philosophy of existentialism is a philosophy that emphasizes individual existence, freedom and choice and it is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe.

There are a few solid reasons that made me to choose this particular philosophy in my teaching career. One of the reasons is because this particular philosophy allows or emphasizes the involvement or participation of students in the classroom and does not only encourages the participation of teachers (teachers-centered) in the learning and teaching process that occurs in a classroom environment. As a result, the teacher-students relationship will be more stronger in future because they will have the opportunity to work in group and communicate in the classroom often.

Besides that, the application of this particular teaching philosophy in my teaching process allows me to teach students using different effective ways or methods like presentation and group works and not only to teach them based on text-books (text-book orientated). This could help me to have an effective teaching and learning classroom environment besides at the same time, allows me to have a professional teaching lifestyle in future.

Therefore , by using this particular philosophy, I will be able to interact with students more frequently and able to see and monitor their education performance through their participation in the classroom from time time.  As a result, me and my students are able to develop ourselves in future and I believe this particular teaching philosophy will help me to define the standard of myself being an individual in my teaching profession in future. Thank you.
